Deadly Buda's European Vacation (April-May 2006)
| Rome, Italy - A 14 hour train ride from Paris gets me there. Had some gnocci on the train that blows away the gnocci I had in Paris at a $$$$ restaurant. Which by the way, avoid Rick Steve's restaurant recommendations. The guy must be English because he knows nothing about good eating. Anyway... I walk from my hotel straight to the Colosseum. It was freaking awesome. Even had an art exhibit inside documenting the Muses and intellectual life in Rome. The fresco reminded me of some girls I know at my local coffee shop. They even had an exhibit of Colosseum graffiti. Citizens would graffito about the gladiators, like: "long may he live"... "Brute is a bum", etc. | |||
| Then came the ruins of the Forum, followed by the Pantheon. The coolest thing about Rome is that everywhere you go are archaeological digs. Just dig 10 feet deep in any direction and you'll find a building I bet. Surrounded by ancient history and the present - always hurtling towards a future as spelled out in the Futurist Manifesto, another Italian creation. | |||
| Chill out on the Spanish Steps and throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain to assure my return to Rome. Another cool thing about Rome: Subway Graffiti! It's everywhere and looks very cool, like the mid-seventies New York City subway graffiti. Lots of fun lettering without any overly pretentious style restrictions (at least yet) looks like a good time to be a graffiti writer in Rome! | |||
